Is it possible to be somewhat allergic to alchohol?

But i tend to get very stuffy (i mean a stuffy nose) when i drink 😕

Like tonight, i was having a few rum n cokes, & now i'm all stuffed up.

Happen to anyone else?

yes...my friend in fact breaks out in hives and has diffculty breathing.

Happened to me once, but I was sick with a cold at the time (yeah, bad idea I know). I went to bed without drinking any water after having rum, so I apparently got really dehydrated and woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I was going to asphyxiate 🙁.

Hmm interesting.

I don't get a bad reaction per say, i just devolop a really stuffy nose.

I'm thinking it could just be a certain kind of rum, since i normally am fine when i drink coolers.

many asians get flushed..nausea etc... various levels of intolerance of alcohol. its not an alergy.

Alcohol is METABOLIC WASTE. Its only natural for the body to react against it.

Not really an allergy. More of a lack of the enzymes (or speed) necessary to break down the alcohol.

Correct it is a lack or small available amount of alcohol dehydrogenase.

I really doubt you can become allergic to alcohol, but certainly to a lot of the yeasty by-products that come along with most drinks.

Maybe try taking a couple of Pepcid AC an hour before drinking the rum and see if that helps. No more than two tablets though, or you'll get an almost immediate headache.

After only one drink I break into hives and it gets harder for me to breathe. I also get red all over (arms, face, back).

Sounds like you lack the enzyme necessary to breakdown alcohol.

yea theres the opposite too from what i remember. some people derive more pleasure from alcohol. all genetic. it makes them more prone to alcoholism though of course.

Very common. Comes from the some of the byproducts of wine production still remaining in the final bottled (or boxed if you are a cheap bastard like myself) product.
