is it possible that my lappy backlight gets gradually brighter after it's turned on?

it seems like when I open up my laptop, the screen starts out really really dim and then gradually gets brighter over ~20s.

I'm pretty sure I'm not just imagining it because when I hold it next to my CRT, I can see a big difference at first and then a minute later, the lappy looks just about as bright

ok, but that's a software setting

I'm just talking about it gradually getting brighter when it's first turned on (on AC power)

Mine all do the same thing. I have an IBM X and T. Both start dim and get brighter.

Common for LCDs to do that. My LCD does that if I have the screen off for awhile Just like some lightbulbs that starts dim then brightens up not instantly bright.

the backlight is typically a cold cathode or flourescent lamp, so yes, they do take a little time to warm up so they will get their brightest after a few minutes of warm up.
