Is it possible for your car battery to just die over night?

Saturday I was uninstalling my amp and subs. Drove the car aftwards no problem. Sunday morning go to start it, starts to turn over then battery is dead. Jump it instantly go over to my gf's. Leave 3 hours later and it starts fine. This morning get up same thing. Started to turn over then was dead.

Battery as far as i know hasnt been changed on it. Im the 2nd owner. Its a 2001 Z24, had it for a year now. No big deal to change the battery but im wondering if its just a loose connection or something.

Thoughts?
 
My guess is you screwed up the wiring when you pulled out the amp and subs and now have a slow drain somewhere.
 
yea they tend to die overnight when they are on their last legs. u can jump em and start em a few hours later a couple times, but its really gone.
 
Alright. It will be the first money that I put into the car so far beyond oil changes so im not complaining.
 
take out all your fuses or disconnect your red battery cable over night and see if the next morning its still dead...

if its not... you could either have a light on, a short circuit from removing your stereo equip, or a bad alternator. (if the diodes go bad in an alternator, it can discharge your battery overnite - it happened to me before)
 
Either you messed up the wiring, or the battery just died. It is indeed possible for the batter to just die over night on you like that. I'd investiagte a short first, then go for the battery.

If it keeps dying with the new batter you know you messed something up 🙂
 
Ive installed wiring and taken it out numerous times. All i did was take out my Power and ground wires. And yea its been pretty cold the last few days more so then what it has been here in PA.
 
I just had a similar problem with my pickup truck.

Drove to a friend's house, everything was fine. Decided to leave at 3am, battery is DEAD.

Replaced the battery (it was 8 years old!), started right up.

NExt morning, the new battery was DEAD.

Turns out that my battery saver relay went bad. It was constantly drawing from the battery.

Replaced that and no more problems!

My dad said he was gonna hook up the battery charger to it and see what it does. I wouldnt know how to replace the battery relay.

Well, yes. What are the symptoms of a battery that is almost dead? There are no symptoms until it no longer has enough juice to start the car.

Have you tried driving it without the stereo on to to take that variable out of the equation?

And the stereo is out of my car. Im eventually replacing the amp and the headunit.
 
Here's an easy way to figure out if you have excessive current draw with the key in the off position.
Remove key from ignition,diconnect the negative battery cable,touch a 12v test light between the cable and battery terminal,if the light glows brightly then start removing the fuses one at a time until it either glows dimly or goes out all together.

A short in your electrical system will kill your battery overnight.

do what he said.... and like i said, a faulty alternator diode could have the same effect.
