Hello everyone, I would just like to say I'm a total noob when it comes to routers. I can handle seting it up and networking all my computers and that's about it.
My question is this, can the router be the one to assign IPs to the computers that is using it? The way I have it right now is that I would assign IPs to every computer by going to the properties and assigning it via Internet Protocol. This is fine and works great, but I have two notebooks/laptops that i use at home, school and work. By doing it the way mentioned above, of course I won't be able to use my wireless connection on my notebook anywhere else unless I go into the wireless properties and change the settings again. It's more of an annoyance than a real problem, but could I set it up to where my router is the one to assign IPs so that I wouldn't have to mess with the wireless properties on my notebooks when I use wireless at school and at work? The router and system info is as follows:
- Router: Linksys WRT54GX2
- Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Any help on this guys is greatly appreciated, thanks.
