true...but if he's asking can someone contact your ISP and get it...then no

they could possible do an IP check, determine the city and state, then look you up in the phone book if they know your name

I'm just a little curious because a kid in my family wanted to make an account at neopets.com once so I entered a fake name and used my e-mail address.

Well a few months later I start getting real junk mail at my house and a year subscription for YM magazine, that I never singned up for or paid for, in the fake name I used.

Now it's about two years later and i'm still getting stuff in that name, mostly from the army, navy, marines, exc.

I think it's funny and tells you that neopets sells your info and the government ends up with it for recruiting purposes, but i'm 99% sure that I didn't give my address to them and the kid didn't either since he didn't know it.

I know, but the thing is this was for a made up name that was only used on neopets.com and like I said i'm 99% sure that the only real info given was my e-mail addy.

It's nice to know the government is getting your kids name from an online game and sending out recruiting materials as soon as they turn 18 though. 🙂

There's this little thing called the DMV database and the Selective Service that gives your name to them anyway.

yes you can find people's home addresses by email address. i just tried it on my own email.

it gave me my old address (which is the same location but it changed from RR# to an actuall street address)

Ok, but I don't think you guys/gals are getting that a completly made up name was used on neopets.com only and the mail, including recruiting mail is in only that name.

Which says neopets sold the info and somehow my address was found.

Lesson - Don't trust childrens websites. 🙂

Did you completely make up just a name, or did you make sure to make up a fake address too?

There's a good chance you could've forgotten to fake the address.

At the time at least they didn't ask for an postal address, just e-mail and maybe state, city.
