Is it possible for an order from BB.com to mistakenly not be charged, but shipped regardless?

I recently ordered an 8800gt from bestbuy.com for $249.99 + tax shipped.

I was drunk at the time, and immediately wanted to cancel upon waking up. I checked my email, and in addition to my order receipt, there was an email saying the card was backordered and expected to ship in 2-3 weeks It left the 800 number to call, and email address to use if I wanted to cancel the order before it shipped. I called, and waited on hold for 20+min before deciding just to email bb.com customer service. I did so, and told them not to charge my card, and to cancel my order.

The next correspondence I received was an email stating that my order had been shipped, and my card had been charged.

"Oh well", I thought, as I checked the prices on ebay, and realized I could turn a tidy $50+ profit pretty easily...

The CSR got back to me later that day saying it was too late to cancel, and stating yet again that my CC had been charged

I then logged into my online banking (through Comerica) and noticed my card had not yet been charged. This was strange to me, because whenever I buy something with that card, it shows up in my "pending transactions" nearly immediately. I was expecting it to have been there for a day or so at that point from when they first ran the card to check for sufficient funds. Any time I've ever bought something from Best buy or best buy.com it's shown up right away.

Funny thing is, I just received the videocard, and my Visa has yet to be charged! I don't want to get my hopes up or anything, but all the purchases I've made since then have all shown up, so I know it isn't a problem with my card.

My question I guess is, what is the likelihood that this order has fallen through the cracks? Has anyone had a similar experience, or ever heard of this happening?

i bought that same video cad cause it was a decent deal and i wanted the bfg model for the lifetime warranty. i would say its not imposible that they wont charge you but it is very very unlikely. it is almost a guarantee that you will get charged in a day or two. although i with they would forget t charge me too.

wasn't there a criminal charges brought up against a woman in NJ that found an exploit that would allow her to buy something, it would ship and she would not get charged? I think that was with QVC or something, but if they use a similar system i suppose it's possible.

This can certainly happen. It did with me.

About a year ago, I placed an order at OfficeDepot.com for a 19" Samsung LCD. I verified that the OD two miles from me had it in stock, then chose local pickup for the shipping option.

Order went through without a hitch, and I got my order confirmation email. Immediately printed this out and drove to the Office Depot. I showed the guy the order confirmation, he took it, went back and got my LCD and handed it to me saying "Last one!". I left with it... no signing anything or further paperwork etc. He smiled and said have a nice day.

Later that night when I checked my email again, I saw that they had cancelled my order due to no stock at the local store. <eyebrow raise>

My CC never got charged.

It gets better.

There was a $100 rebate from Viewsonic for the monitor. I had the receipt, so I just said screw it, let's see what happens. Got my $100 a few weeks later.

Did I feel guilty? Maybe a little, but I figure I get at least one time to screw The Man after all the times He has screwed me. :D

Did anyone else think this was a thread about foot odors?

I think a CC charge will arrive in the near future.

It can happen.... But I'll bet that they realize their mistake and charge you sometime in the next week.

Cool stuff like this happens to me once in a while. It's not cool when the charge just appears a few days late. :|

My parents have had overstock.com send them stuff (like big things, like furnature) and never bill them. My mother being true to her morals called them up asking to return them. They said don't bother, the shipping is too much to justify it.

Yeah, that's happened to me once. I ordered a loveseat from Target, it never showed up, so i canceled the order. The next day it shows up on my doorstep (three weeks after it was supposed to). I had ordered a camera around the same time and they didn't send the $30 gift card that was supposed to come with it. I called them to b1tch about that and they sent me a new camera thinking that they had never sent the camera rather just the gift card. So, i was nice and told them about the loveseat that had showed up. But hey, i got B1G1 camera deal out of it.

Here's a better one. I once withdrew $250 from one of my bank accounts to purchase a camera off of a friend, and it NEVER showed up as a withdrawal from my bank.

This was around Easter time this year. I am confident that I got away with it.

i got the same email saying it was backordered, but then a few hours later got the email saying it shipped.

it has not been charged to my card yet but i usually dont get concerned about that for a few days because they are pretty slow about having charged show up on there.(i use US Bank)

I've had duplicate products show up from various vendors a couple of times. It's nice when it happens....
