Is it possible for a socket AM2 motherboard to support regular DDR memory?

I have 6 gigs waiting for my next 2 system builds (4 pieces of 512 MB PC2700 sticks and 4 pieces of 1 GB PC2700 sticks). I'm hoping that the upcoming Socket AM2 CPUs will still be able to support DDR memory.

The memory contoller is part of the CPU and DDR and DDR2 are very different, so DDR support on AM2 boards is doubtful. The Asrock A64 upgrade boards will feature memory slots on the expansion socket cards as a result.

You can always sell the ram, or get a good 939 setup now.

I was hoping the new A64's built-in memory controller would be able to handle both DDR and DDR2. Oh well, I will probably get a 939 system then.

DDR and DDR2 aren't that much different on their outside interface. Various P4 chipsets have demonstrated that the same RAM controller unit can support either.

Why do people always want to go backward??? No way I want backward compatibility. You want DDR, just get 939.. You want ddr2, get something new. Simple. Oh, I know.. I'll heard "yes, but I've paid lot of $$$ for my 2 gigs of memory and I'd like to move it to my new system.."

Sell the whole old system and start a new one with up to date component.. "Yes, but I don't have enough money.." So, When I don't have enough money to upgrade, I don't and I don't waste the one I have buying old stuff to mix with new...

Sorry, but time are moving forward ...
