Is it Possible for a Canadian to get an American Credit Card when he does not live in the USA?

The reason I ask is because now many US internet shops will not take International Credit Cards. I have no problem with them shipping to an address near the border but I have to find out a way to pay them :(

I suppose I can buy a money order in the US but that is a bit of a pain.

It seems like it should be possible, but I have no idea.

Seems like the computerized aspect of it would allow conversions between currency easily or something.

the thing is how would I go about applying for a US credit card since I work in Canada? Most internet shops used to take my Canadian credit card but I guess they have gotten burned before from international cards and they only sell in the US :(

I guess I will have to make trips to the States & buy US money orders from there :(

I wont' say it can't be done but I see no reason for it to be practically possible. Even a canadian who has moved to the US with a valid SSN often has an exceptionally difficult time getting a US credit card due to lack of credit. Your problems are compounded because, in addition to absolutely no US credit, you don't even have a US residence or US SSN. I've heard of people moving back to Canada and keeping an already existing US credit card, but they still have a valid SSN.

I can't think of any credit card companies that would base your application not only on your canadian credit (most just wonder what you're talking about when you mentino this), but also ignore the fact that you don't have an SSN.

The thing is they will not accept international orders......... no international credit cards or money orders. I have a place for them to send it near the border but I guess I will have to buy US money orders in the US for payment to get the goods :( UNless I can find a way to get a US Credit Card :p
