My mailbox is full of these credit card offers every day now. I know interest rates are low, but jeeeeez. My usual mail: 8+ credit card offers, 1 bill, 1 free mag :), and 1 flyer/ad of some sort. This adds up to about 250 a month! And they are all thick, killing many trees :(

Anyways, the main point of this thread, besides to rant, is to see if you can just call up the credit card companies (like Bank One or Providian or whatever) and tell them to just quit it. If I want a credit card, I'll apply for one.

I average around 20 per week.

Lately I just stuff them in one post-paid envelope and send them to one lucky recipient. :)

Maybe this will cause them to take my name off their mailing list? :)

Well at least it's saving trash bags at my house.

25%!?!?! Almost all of mine are 0% APR, either for balance transfers or purchases. The only one that tempted me was 0% APR on both purchases and bal transfers, no bal transfer fees, all until March 2004. Pretty sweet, but I simply never carry credit card debt. I guess they know this and are trying to get me :)

Mine come in cycles. I'll get 2 or 3 a day for a while and then none for a while. I was getting about 3 a week from the one credit card company I actually use and so I called them and told them to stop wasting the trees since I already have their card.

How I stopped credit card applications (and most junk mail).

"The national credit bureaus offer a toll-free number that enables consumers to opt-out of all pre-approved credit offers with just one phone call. Call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) for more information." More...

plus

Opt-out letters to the following: the major credit unions, your bank, your credit card issuer(s), the major direct marketers
How and Where

plus

Use pre-paid return envelopes to request removal from that particular mailing list.

I will occasionally spend a stamp to request removal from a particular catalog I no longer wish to receive (or call, I suppose) or something that doesn't include a pre-paid envelope.

After doing that, credit card offers have pretty much dissappeared. I'm not complaining. I've got five cards at the moment and I'm not looking for any more. Still get the occassional offer, but I'm going to take care of that as well.

Yeah, I am getting quite a lot too, including this one who keeps sending me the application even though I replied, got the card and activated a month ago. Anyway, this one has value miles on it and I have already racked up about $1500 (and I am now in debt).
