Is it okay to wear just a dress shirt and dockers to an interview?

i'm trying to explore another job interview near me but my suit is at my other home... 300 miles from me. do you guys think it would be pointless to go without a suit? this interview also includes a 4-5 hour exam... thanks

Depends on the job?
High paying investment banking - NO
Tech Support Position - Sure
Anywhere in the middle - maybe - need more details

Just wear shorts, Tees, and a Sandle. It shows em how much confidence you have, they'll love it!

whats the point of giving up just because you're not dressed as nicely...you might as well give it a shot.

how new and crisp looking are they? all interviews are learning experiences, you learn more at the interviews for the jobs you don't get, anyway. I'd go, it can't hurt, and maybe you'll get the jo. If you are worried, you can always explain to the people that your suits are 300 miles away.

Go for the experience at least and laugh at the other guys taking a 5 hour exam in their suits.

You'll be fine with a collared shirt and dockers...if you feel you need to be a little more dressed up, just add a tie.

It's tuesday. It's enough time to get the suit mailed to you overnight.

HELLO... RENTAL SUIT!

;) maybe not.

Yeah, you'll be fine but you should try and add in a tie or something.

If there is a 4-5 hour exam, then there is actually a good chance that everyone who wears a suit will get laughed at for dressing in a manner which would be strikingly ridiculous for the situation.

Either way, if you're worth it, you could go in wearing dockers and a polo shirt and probably do well.

I have always been told to try and dress one lvl above everday attire required for job. For example if daily wear is nice Jeans/Dockers with a collered pullover shirt. I would wear a dress shirt and tie but no jacket.

I interview for one of the largest companies in the US, and I can at least tell you what all of our interviewers generally believe.

You had better AT LEAST have on khakis and a nice shirt. More important is the ironing. If everything is well-ironed, it tells me that you cared enough to prepare for the interview. I recommended a kid I interviewed last week that had on a polo shirt, but it looked relatively wrinkle-free, and the kid impressed me. Keep in mind, he was coming out of college (so I give more wiggle room).

Personally, if I were interviewing you, I'd rather not hear an excuse. Go in there with a well-ironed shirt, well-ironed khakis and a nice tie, and give them a good interview and they won't think twice about it.

Also, for the record, this is bad advice. ALWAYS wear a suit when you can. Why? It's REAL simple: NOT wearing a suit can ONLY hurt you. It's like a lip ring: it looks alright on some people, but it NEVER makes you look BETTER than without one, just maybe the same.
