And yes, your rum will be fine in the freezer, as will any hard liquor.

I've never done it, it wont freeze, but perhaps the flavor of rum might be destroyed when cooled. Anyone know?

Vodka, go for a classic vodka tonic. Vodka + Tonic + Lime wedge.
Rum, if you got many types, go make a Zombie. It's a lot of rum with pineapple juice.

I keep my "mixing" rums in the freezer (Bacardi Gold & Silver, Cap'n Morgan, etc...)

That is how I drink my hard liquor. The cold seems to take off the edge (after taste) when you drink it neat - or at least to me it does.
