i've done it before at a Fleet ATM, before they were the BOA. Can't see why it won't work.

I wouldn't put any deposit in an ATM. RossMAN and a few other people who work at banks can back me up here. Why people do this - I don't know, but in terms of liability if your deposit would magically disappear, you're basically SOL.

maybe, but boa has been pretty decent to me. Whenever it is over like $50 I get a receipt and would raise hell, and cancel every account if it wasn't credited

See, that's the beauty of cheques, they can be cancelled and news one can be issued in the cancelled cheque's place ;)

If you need that money now the hassle and time of doing so isn't worth it. MO? It'll cost you an extra $12 to get the MO canceled and reissued. Cash in an ATM deposit is just straight up idiotic though. I mean seriously, who doesn't have the extra 5-10 minutes to stop in a bank and get a physical paper receipt showing you deposited the money into the account? Plus, it gives you a chance to go in and mack on the hot tellers! :D

I only make deposits via a BoA ATM. I've done it for 10 years with no problem. And I eBay alot, so I get alot of checks and MOs. Don't fear technology. I would not want to use the teller everytime, like we did in the 70's. Besides, it costs per transaction.

What costs per transaction?

Not really. If it's a monetary instrument (check, money order, cashiers check, payroll check) there is a PAPER TRAIL so stopping payment and re-issuing a new check is possible. However I would NEVER deposit cash into an ATM despite all the safeguards. I only deposit cash at the teller and receive a receipt.

With my BoA account, after the first 2 teller transactions each month, I'm charged like $2 or $3 per teller transaction. So I use direct deposit for my paychecks, and ATM deposits for all others. And I deposit cash in ATMs all the time. Banks would be in BIG trouble if ATM deposits weren't safe. Until I lose one, I'll continue to use them.

Now if I were depositing $1000+ cash, I'd probably go to a teller just to be safe.

Ahh ok. My account when it was upgraded rescinded the deposit limits (I know I had 2 deposits per month allowed under my Student Account) :)

I do the same, even though in my 'hood the lines at the bank are always way too long. Cash deposit at an ATM? <shudder> No way.
