Is it ok to wrap CPUs in tin foil?

I would advise highly against that. Some plastic wrap would probably be sufficient. Put it inside a small box after you wrap it.

Plastic Wrap? The kind with "static" cling? :Q

Go buy ESD bags or something.

I know a guy who put his ESD stuff into tupperware. Yes tupperware. He never had a problem.

i'm by no means an expert on the field, but an engineering friend of mine told me that putting cpu's ram etc in static is safe. the idea is that the conductivity of the foil distributes the charge evenly over all the pins and that the damage doesn't come from the charge but that the charge only hits certain pins selectively. if it is distributed over all evenly then there is no damage.

that's whay i've been told anyway.

Assuming you could connect every pin. I feel it's better to put them in ESD or anti-stat bags. I work for a blown film extruding company (HERE) and we make tons of anti-stat film for wrapping electronic sub-assemblies. Better safe than sorry... An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, a bird in had is better than two in the bush... Arrrrgh enough cliche's!

what about this: get a plush animal, but a slit on the back of it, and put them inside with the cotton stuff?
It would be extremely cute (if it was a monkey) and it would have more processing power than other stuffed animals.....but would it be safe? 😛
