Is it ok to workout with a cold?

Common sense tells me no, but sometimes even Jiminy Cricket is wrong. What do you think?

I do High intensity interval training, supposed to work on lower body this morning, but I have a stuffy nose and a scratchy throat.

You're fine.

If you're that worried, go a little easy on yourself today, but there's no reason to stay at home in bed.

Now if there is a fever, then you should prolly stay home.

Yes, but don't if you workout in a gym. I hate seeing people sniffling and sneezing all over the equipment.

If you are going outside to do your regular HIIT... do it.

QFT. Don't be an ass and get others sick.

Suck it up and go.

I'd just go either way. You'll feel pretty shatty at first in the gym... but after sweating it all out, you will be glad you went. I love working out when I'm sick.

BTW, what type of HIIT are you doing - explain the program. I've been wanting to try something new for a while now.

Hey, as long as you can move the weight go for it 😀 A cold won't hurt you but I wouldn't do a lot of cardio right now.

When im sick i can't wait to hit the treadmill honestly. I get on that for about 30 mins on my normal work out (which is hard) and sweat that cold out of me. No Lie! I learned that this happens when i was playing football in highschool. I was sick as a dog, went out and did our normal practice got a good night sleep woke up the next day feeling great.

I wouldn't do the HIIT stuff, as high intensity exercise suppresses your immune system for a few hours afterwards while your body recovers, but low-to-medium intensity stuff is fine. I find that a nice easy run is one of the best cold remedies; it clears outt he lungs and sinuses and makes me feel 90% better. However, if your cold isn't severe; just a stuffy nose and such, then by all means do the workout. If you feel that you could do it to the level you're expecting, then you're good to go.

Yeah, and the scratchy throat concerns me. If you are communicable, you are risking the other gym attendees. If it's just a stuffy nose, you are probably not communicable. Anyway, try to exercise hygiene. When I get back from the gym I try to wash my hands - it's the principal place I go nowadays where I might pick up something.

AFA staying in bed, it's up to you and how you feel. If you have the energy to get up and do stuff, do it.

I hate to say "sweating it out" sounds good, but I believe it, too. I run when I have a cold and sweat like crazy, sleep lots and drink my fluids of course and i'm tip top as opposed to hanging out in a stuffy room breathing the same bad air that I just coughed up.

QFT, no big deal.

i dont know opinions very and such but i say no cause your body is worknig to kick it out and heal, while your tearing down muscle and asking it to rebuild...overworking. depends on what kinda of workout but as a pro hockey player i'd say dont work out, heal then continue. just my thoughts

If you've got a fever, no.

But if it's just congestion, go ahead and do it. I've done some of my best athletic work with a cold.
