Is it ok to use an Athlon fan for Socket 7???

I bought a new fan to replace the stock AMD fan I got with my Athlon, and am wondering if I can use the stock fan on an old K6-2 300Mhz chip I am building into a server - the stock fan should cool much better than my old socket 7 fan, assuming it sits solidly on top on the chip (BTW, I did put it on and it seems to have a flush fit on top). Anybody ever try this? Got any recommendations?
