I just got an ABIT KT7 Raid motherboard. At this time I only plan on using 1 hard drive. Will this board work ok with 1 hard drive?. I plan on adding additional drives in the future. Is there anything special that needs to be done for running just 1 hard drive?

yes. There are 4 IDE connectors on the board, two are for RAID, these might work ok with one, but just to be sure use the other ones instead. Shouldn't require anything special, happy RAIDing

wow, thats a pretty sweet system you've got.

yeah, it'll work just fine. in fact, you can have multiple hdisks in there and not use the raid controller at all. with 1 drive, i don't think the raid setup will even let you configure a raid system, so you dont' need to do anything.

Yes it will work.
My setup:
IDE1 has CDrom.
IDE2 has CDRW and Zip100.
IDE3 IBM 15 gig ata100.
IDE4 is open for future harddrive.

If you put the single hard drive on the raid, remember to use the single drive raid drivers, which are different from the normal drivers.

Enigma: great minds think alike. (ok maybe I don't have such a great mind but...) I have the exact same setup except a 20 Gig ATA66. Works like a champ but somehow managed to burn my second ever coaster. Not sure whether IE crashed the burner or the burner crashed IE. Oh well. Its still a good track record.

I would suggest using the hard drive on the regular IDE controller, not on the raid controller. I noticed a large increase in loading time when entering a multiplayer Unreal Tournament game when my one drive was connected to the raid controller. The problem was fixed when I switched to the regular IDE channel. Maybe because I am not using the correct raid driver as mentioned above.

Thats a nice computer, have fun!
