Is it ok to turn my reciever on its side...???...

Its a suround sound reciever. I'd like to turn it 90 degrees onto a side so that it takes up less of a footprint. Good or bad idea?

Adding to this partially correct response:

The receiver is internally designed with the fact "heat rises" in mind. The way the transformer and internal components are placed and stacked was all planned out assuming the receiver would sit in it's normal position (i.e. on it's feet) so the heat can rise. Thru convection, cooler air is drawn in thru the bottom/side vents and hot air escapes thru the top vents.

You'll screw it up if you put it on it's side.

I did that once with a high-end sony receiver and after about a year the transformer, being so heavy, actually fell out and nearly burned down my house. Something to consider.
