is it ok to take the 3-pin plug from the NB fan to use for a chasis fan?

My mobo is lacking in pins for all the fans i have, its a MSI i865pe NEO 2, and it came with HS/F on the NB, well i dont mind if the NB is passively cooled with just a HS, and was wondering if I could attach a fan from my chasis(back of the case next to I/O shield) fan to the connectors that were supposed to be used for the NB fan. the NB fan, and chasis fan both use 12V 3pin connectors i believe and just wanted to confirm it.
