is it ok to put mmx chip on non-mmx mobo?

I put 200mmx on old socket 7 mobo
does support 200mhz but i can't seem to find anything about mmx and it will not show 200mhz mmx during boot up,.
 
What has happened is that the BIOS detects it running as a Pentium 200 non-mmx. And since your using an older non-mmx board, your MMX extension has been disabled(correct me if I'm wrong). Basically, its performing identically as a Pentium 200 Classic right now.

 
What you can do is search if theres any BIOS updates for your motherboard(if any available), that would support MMX CPUs.
 
MMX instructions will be executed regardless of whether or not the motherboard supports MMX processors. The instructions themselves are not a function of the motherboard.

If anything, voltage should be the issue, as Pentium MMXs use a split plane voltage (2 voltages 3.3 and 2.8) rather than the single 3.3 volts of the Pentium Classic.

See if you can find a BIOS update for your motherboard, and see if there is a jumper or setting in the BIOS for MMX (aka P55C) Pentiums. Also make sure that the voltage is set correctly, or you risk damaging your CPU.
 
There used to be a plug-in dingfod that went between the socket and the chip that would supply the correct voltages for this situation.
