Hi all, I got a mini tower with poor cooling (1.2 ghz Celeron, 256 RAM, onboard video) with 2 drives:

20gb 2mb cache IDE
100 gb 4 (or 8?) mb cache IDE

I want to place that mini tower horizontally, thus placing disks vertically. I'm thinking to make it a print/file server for my LAN.

Can I let drives stand vertically, or should I take out drive cage and mount it so that drives are HORIZONTAL in CD/DVD bay area using zip-ties?

Cheerz, MEGA

yes you can place it in any orientation you like.
Sideways, 45 degrees, upside down, don't matter :)
As long as you don't move it around while its running your fine .

This question has been asked every year for the past 15 years at least. Back in the old days of the Seagate ST-51 series, it made a minor difference only if the orientation was changed. Nowadays - it makes no difference at all. Look at all of the external vertical drives! I have put them in at strange angles with Velcro - no problem at all.

It just goes to show that our membership is still growing especially with the younger generations
