Why not?

When companies advertise, they don't tell you all the bad sh!t, just the good sh!t.

You are advertising yourself with your resume, so make it good.

Good luck!

Of course it is..

When you are 35 I highly doubt you'll want to put down Shoprite cashier or such things for example..

But even when younger it won't matter.

Heh... Shoprite cashier...

How about Weinerschnitzel? Or Sav-On?

I only list the jobs related to the position I'm applying for. I'm not 18 anymore and don't have to show jobs just to fill my resume. I also only submit single-page resumes. Tempting as it is to use 2 pages to list everything I've done in past jobs, I find that recruiters are more responsive to crisp, simple, and easily understandable resumes (since they're usually clueless anywayz.) I keep a more detailed resume available to give to the IT manager when I go interview, and explain that I didn't want to overburden the HR person. :D

I usually limit the list of past jobs on a resume. I usually take the best three jobs and emphasize on them only.

It's never steered me wrong.

It's perfectly fine.

However, if they notice a gap in the time between jobs, and they ask you what was going on, you can't lie.

That is true. Some jobs look at your resume as it where a time line. Especially the time period after you graduated school, no time for dilly dally. But jobs you had when you where a teenager they could care less about. They just like to see ambitious students come staright out of college more importantly.

In my case, I've worked 5 years as an engineering tech, a company won't give a rats arse how I was the year and a half before as a line cook.

I agree that it is fine that you leave some employment off. I also generally list only the related jobs. Another thing, if you didn't make it past the probationary period, you also do not have to list it.

I think it depends on how old you are. I know when I got my job i currently have, i was young. They wanted to know ANY previous working experience I had prior. And even on my resume, they asked for a new one because i hadn't listed where I currently worked. So if you've only worked at 2 fast food restraunts and you have had schooling for another job. I would list those 2 fast food restraunts (if they were good experiences) rather than having nothing other than listing you were in school for 2 years or whatever.

It's ok to leave it off a resume, but be prepared to explain if it creates a gap in your employment history.

What AU Tiger said.

Someone asked this of a headhunter at a presentation at school the other day, and the answer was pretty much what Tiger said.
