Is it ok to install win95/98/me/2K driver if there is no specified XP driver?

Well, I thought this is the bst place to ask this question.. so here it goes.
For a couple of my hardware (keyboard, NIC..), the manufacturers yet list a driver for Windows XP.
And I'm not sure they will ever.
So.. if I was to install a say.. NIC and windows XP doesn't recognise it (thus no native drivers installed)..
should I use
a)Windows 95/98/Me driver or
b)Windows 2000 driver or
c)Better alternative?

well, the problem is, you can't just "use" a 9x or 2k driver...it's not that reliable...if you're LUCKY you can use a win2k driver

if XP doesn't natively support something, and there's definitely no XP driver out there, then you're only chance of getting a driver to work would be forcing it to use the win2k driver. win2k and XP are both somewhat similiar platforms...i.e. based on an NT background.

win9x systems are completely different architectures, and i've never really heard of any win9x or winME drivers working in XP

in fact, there's just not that many win2k drivers that will work either....just sometimes, as i said above, you will get lucky

I have a slightly different approach:

WinXP does have a whole horde of drivers that come with it already so theres a good chance it will recognise your stuff alone... and if it doesnt youre best off using Win2k drivers.
