Well I am using Serv-U and I can make a server going directly through my cable modem but when I hook it up to a router I get lost and dont know what to do...

So first you got to set the DNS of the DHCP in the Router Configuration Settings Manual. Then load up Serv-U and AutoUpdate, this fixes a lot of problems. Then turn off Serv-U cause it sucks and get BulletProof FTP Server. Then you map the port to your DHCP internet router server to the internal IP but make sure it's mapped to the external IP. Ta-da, you have a working FTP server using Serv-User.
