Is it ok overclocking via the bios preset?

It can be ok, but sometimes it will use more voltage than necessary. Your CPU may only need 1.25v for 4.2Ghz but maybe the BIOS gives it 1.3v. You are better off finding the voltage yourself through trial and error. That way you can keep it as low as possible while remaining stable and error free. Lower is better for the life of your CPU and it helps to keep temps down.

I've never had much luck with Bios presets personally. Give it a try though. Most AsRock boards have a preset to # of oc fails - set it to one.

I have used instant overclocking features with an AMD chip in the past and had no issues. I've heard stories about overvolting, but I never saw it. In fact, the mild auto-OC that I got was at stock volts. That doesn't guarantee that you won't have issues, but I tend to think that manufacturers wouldn't include presets if they weren't safe for the supported CPUs. Just make sure to check your voltages after applying one.
