Sure it's alright. One of my best friends goes during the winter time. He even went to the tanning bed for the prom, hell if I know why, but he did.

No it is not OK. There was a guy who lived on my dorm floor when I was a freshman in college who tanned. We called him "Goldenrod." :)

Um, no. Its like the "Hair Piece" thing. Balding people think people will make fun of them because they are bald so they go out and buy something that will on make people laugh at them even more. With "fake-n-bake" they think that people will make fun of them because they are Whitey McWhite so they go tan and come out looking like an Orange, YUM! YUM!

I go to one every year for a month before going on vacation in Jamaica. Maybe people call me stupid ( for many reasons other than this) but at least I dont ruin my vacation by getting burned as hell the first day.

No, it's wrong for just about anyone. It's always obvious who's been spending time in the tanning bed. They're usually the ugliest people in a group.

Tanning beds are for girly men. What I do is to shave my back (for a more even tan), apply a thin film of motor oil to my body, then go lie down in the back of my pickup out in the sun for an hour. That'll darken your hide in a hurry.

I like to tan about once every two weeks (I get em free)

I really don't think it's that unhealthy - as long as you don't tan long enough to get burned.

Now, I can spend a lot longer in the sun without getting burned - I almost never get burned.

AND NO! Tanning beds never make a "fake" tan - self-tanning lotions are what turn you orange; not tanning beds

guys can tan if they want - there's always hot girls there to look at anyway

A guy I used to work with was always considered to be quite masculine..you know the type, had to start shaving when he was 8 yrs old & superjock man, ect ect... Then he started going to the tanning salon....can you say 'fruity' and 'vain'?

Yeah it's alright, there's nothing to be ashamed of. I myself used to tan in the cancer box. A girl I was seeing three years ago worked in a gym/spa and I was curious about it. I already had a mild tan from surfing on the weekends my last two years of high school. After a couple 30min sessions I noticed a huge tone change. To all the name callers out there, you guys really need to grow up, there's nothing wrong with feeling better about yourself. And if you do decide to tan from a machine, it's a LOT better than risking your skin under the sun. Sure, any tan is harmful, but as long as you don't over do it, there's not too much to worry about. If you're pale, go ahead and tan, but if you're trying to look mexican, that's a whole 'nother story.

I'm not a fan of tanning bed tans, either. Had to get tan for a production of "South Pacific" I'm doing in Seattle. Picked up some Neutrogena Self-Tanning Foam and I'm pretty impressed. Takes a bit of practice to get the right stuff covered but a few hours later you're darker. Nifty stuff.

Best part - You're not baking your skin in a tanning bed.
