Is it normal to hear SSDs?

My new computer has a Samsung 64 GB SSD and when there's a lot of activity I can hear it. It's actually more annoying than a normal hard drive since it's at such a high pitch.

i don't think you're hearing the SSD, must be the motherboard/video card/power supply inductors whining under load.

There's nothing in a SSD that makes noise.

This. Whenever you make your computer quieter, something else becomes the loudest part. A couple of years back I tried to build a machine with no moving parts at all, and you could still hear the CPU/motherboard throttling up and down with high-pitch whines.

Yep, usually its the chips themselves vibrating against the PCB. A pencil w/ eraser will help you find the noisy chips (press lightly on each one in turn. Once you've done that, painting the edges with some clear nail polish usually quietens them down.
