Is it normal to have delayed burn pains?

I was doing some cooking and I took a break to make a phone call. About 10 minutes into my phone call my hand starts burning. I look at it, and its all red. Its now starting to swell and it hurts pretty bad.

Whats weird is that the pain didn't start til 10 minutes after I stopped cooking. Is that normal?

How did you burn it? In any case, for a burn with that type of reaction, I would be thinking about a trip to the emergency room. Seriously. The initial lack of pain may signal nerve damage.

Yes, burn pain usually takes a few minutes to kick in.

<---too many burns to count. I used to carry burn ointment in my lunch box.

I was making chili. I have no idea how I burned myself. I don't remember anything happening.

Perhaps from steam (like when taking the lid off the pot) or perhaps you got some crushed pepper on your arm and it rubbed in(I suppose that would depend on how you make it)?

I've burned myself numerous times (including hot melting plastic + solder) and burns have taken a few minutes before it starts being painful, but you can tell it's irritated beforehand.

its not normal, the pain should be immediate. the fact that you have no idea how you got burned is really really really strange. maybe you are just having a allergic reaction to an ingredient in the food you were making?

Got burned with vegetable oil the other day, didn't REALLY hurt until about 5 minutes later. The initial pain goes away quick, and you think it's fine, then the incessant stinging shows up later and sticks around for a few days...
