I just got a cyberpower cp900avr UPS, I was wondering is it normal for these things to make a slightly audible buzzing noise?(It buzzes when it's running off of the main electric)

No. I have four of these near my main server and there is no sound at all - though I must say that I am getting on years and dont see or hear too well

Mine buzzes when it's on battery (not part of the alarm), but not during normal operation.

Yes, however mine only 'buzz' when you are running on the battery only. It's not the warning beep either. However when it's running off a/c power the units are silent.

Do you both have the same brand and model?

Mine buzzes when on the main 'letric and buzzez louder when it switches to battery.

Should I get it exchanged? (I ask these dumb questions because I've never owned a UPS)

No offense - but CyberPower is major suckage.

Should have went with APC or Belkin. :D

If it is buzzing I'd RMA it.

FWIW I am using the CyberPower 825AVR's on my (2) rigs right now, and I've used dozens of other CyberPower UPS'es over the years. None of them exhibited an audible noise when operating on a/c power.

First, disconnect any devices that are plugged into your UPS. If it still buzzes while on a/c power try an a/c outlet in a different room. If the problem still exists RMA the unit. CyberPower has a very nice Warranty/RMA policy.

Most UPSes will have some level of transformer hum during charging cycles and when on battery backup. It depends more on your ears whether it is annoying or not. Higher line models tend to have better transformers and less hum.

It's fully charged and it buzzes though.

P.S I don't have the software for the ups installed and the unit is not linked to the computer(ups, serial) does this make a difference?

I have both APC and Belkin units and there is no sound at all under normal conditions - and I just unplugged one of them from the wall socket and heard nothing but the alarm.

Actually it depends on how well you can hear. I can hear my APC units buzz but most of my co-workers cannot.
