So..i went to the local eye care speciliast and got a new pair of glasses based on my new prescription. They give one year warranty for all glasses purchased there and today I got my new glasses.

For the lens, i opted for the high end Essilor Crizal D Alize lens:

After leaving the store, I inspected the lenses under sunlight and can see very fine hairline scratches on the lens. They are not deep scratch but are very fine scratches only visible from an angle..is this normal?

And to think I now have to pay a premium for true GLASS lens, because they're ordered so rarely. So, it's because of plastic lens buyers like yourself I have to pay extra now. Good for ya, enjoy your stupid plastic lens POS.

I would genuinely be happy if you were run over by an automobile of some sort.

I agree with Ornery with this one. Plastic will get scratched even with the utmost of care. With the way kids treat things, puh! Those lenses will have more scratches than the bottom of a dinghy in the phillipines used for live rock collecting.

The impact necessary to crack a glass lens is sooo great that you should be concerned more with what is coming your way. Glass / sapphire lens forever!

I try not to be helpful too often, but your new glasses should not have any scratches on them when you walk out of the optometrist's office.

That said, I hate plastic lenses.

And no it's not normal for you to ask such a question!

Methinks a polar bear slapped you silly with a big ass herring and knocked off your glasses.

hmmm not if you don't need to clean them with your shirt every two seconds.

density is a great thing with plastics and thicker lenses.

Not to mention weight.

I roll with contacts and have a pair of glasses when I need to give my eyes a break, like after reading posts like this.

Gentleman, Gentlemen - just return the eyeglasses back in about 350 days and then claim your warranty against scratches. Almost all labs will redo for no charge if you can prove so. Plastic scratches easily but in my experience, uncoated plastic lenses seems a lot harder than coated polycarbonate lenses. For the OP who says that he can see the slight scratches on his new lenses - yes, this is normal.

Personally, I would never recommend glass lenses to any friend or relative. I would recommend poly if your anal about impact protection. Besides, if you scratch your lenses very bad, I make money by replacing your ophthalmic lenses. Someone has to pay for my hobbies...

Take them back. I have the same kind of lenses - mine have a couple of very fine scratches, but I've had these for over a year - there weren't any scratches when I first got them. My only complaint is that they did a crappy job of putting the coating on them - sometimes I can see differences in color depending on what part of the lens I'm looking through.
