Is it necessary to retake Comptia A+ Net+ Classes?

A couple years back I took classes for my A+ Net+ certification exams, but was unable to take the exams due to the cost and my job situation at the time. From what I understand the exams have changed quite a bit since then. Is it necessary to retake classes in order to refresh and get up to date on the latest exam info, or would I be able to pass the exams after studying up-to-date textbooks/test-prep books? I really can't see myself plopping down a ton of money if it isn't necessary. Money is tight at the moment and the cost/benefit ratio doesn't seem to lean in my favor.

Anyone have recommendations on the best self study authors?

Thanks very much, any help is appreciated! 🙂

If you know anything about computers at all, a class shouldn't be required for the A+. About the only thing that is needed is a read through any cheap self-study guide so that you can be reminded about all the ancient stuff that's still on the test. I don't know exactly how up to date the test is these days, but when I took it a few years ago it certainly wasn't very much so.

Network+ ought to be just as easy once you've gone over a self-study guide, if you've got any experience with networking. I never got around to taking it myself (despite having actually bought a coupon for the test, I never scheduled it and then it expired).

Just don't be concerned if you get what seems like a low score. Passing grade is actually pretty low, you can be quite a dummy and get certified, and even if you KNOW what you're doing the tests are designed to make you pick the wrong answer.

I just recently took and passed the Net+ certification test after taking a class last fall. The best refresher guide for Net+ I found is http://www.proprofs.com/mwiki/index.php?title=Comptia_Network%2B_Study_Guide

So, based on that picture, their advice when troubleshooting a network is to kneel on your desk, reaching over the monitor and resting your weight on it, and play with the VGA cable. 😀

I think that means to tell you to check that all cables are connected properly.

Besides the obvious "it's just a stock photo" reply, if you look closer, you'll see that a tower PC is sitting next to the monitor, but you can only see part of its outline.

Yes I could see that. I still think showing somebody laying on top of their monitor while they work on a computer is dumb, especially since you could just move the computer. Just because it's a stock photo doesn't mean it's a good photo.
