Is it necessary to replace Radio shack thermal grease after a certain period of time?

Thermal grease should be fairly stable. What kind of setup do you have and what makes you think that this might be the problem?

Interesting question but I never keep my CPU long enough to worry about it :)

Some thermal pastes can dry out. RS sells two different thermal pastes. One is zinc or aluminum oxide. The other is a clear somewhat thick fluid, that comes in a "pen." It's expensive, but it's very easy to apply and doesn't dry out, AFAIK.

does your sys get unstable after a few months?

Maybe you need to clean your case where cool air comes in.

Hmm be warned ive used radio shock heat sink compound (blue) says silicone. (damn highly conductive?! i didnt know that until i read the fine print just now! oh boy!..)
anyways when i checked it after 6 months it was dry! i mean it looked like cracked desert ground! neeedless to say i wiped it off (it was still fluid form) and reapplied fresh coat, but ive found this on my cpu and my video card. i think this is cheap stuff. will try that silver thingy next but just check on it everyother month or when your pc goes wierd to make sure that heat sink is good.

eh...mustang....highly conductive refers to the heat conductivness...not the electrical conductiveness...check it with an ohmmeter if ya don't believe me.
