Is it necessary to reinstall OS when upgrading from single to dual core CPU?

Currently using XP Corporate on an Asus A8N-E (socket 939). I will be upgrading the cpu from single to dual core. Will I need to reinstall WinXP, or simply swap processors and keep on trucking? TIA for your insight.

On the first startup after installing the new dual-core CPU, WinXP will detect New Hardware (ACPI Multiprocessor PC). Then it will say the new hardware was installed, but might need a reboot. Reboot, and you're in dual-core land. :)

Thanks very much for the response mechBgon. I was hoping it would be that easy.

And to John: 1 - I did not specify "XP Pro" (though it is), and I suspect that the version[ of XP would not change the essence of the question or answer.

2 - I was not "boasting" about anything.

3 - I am so gushingly impressed that you are "elite" while I am such a
lowly "junior" that it makes me want to puke. How many of your 32506
posts are in that haughty tone?

1) You specified "corp" and we all know what that usually means; bootleg software.
2) Then why mention "corp"?
3) You've been a member for over two years and should know that this forum doesn't tolerate warez. 99.9% of the XP Pro Corp users (on this forum) have illegal copy on their computer. Be glad I gave you a direct link to the two drivers that you should install after you've installed your new dual core cpu. Enjoy your vomit.

I'm with John on this one. Generally the people who refer to it as "Corporate" are those who do not have a legitimate license, if you had a legitimate license you'd be referring to it as a "Volume Licensed" version. Besides if you have a VLA you most likely have SA which means you would be looking at installing your Vista license ;)

MechBgon is correct, Windows needs to detect and update to ACPI Multiprocessor and you're set.
