Is it necessary to raise my FSB for overclocking?

I just pt together my first comp and I was wondering if raising the fsb would provide any benefit. I have an AMD 5000 Black Edition and was just using the unlocked multiplier at x15. I also have 2g ddr2 800 in the system with a Gigabyte m61ps3 MOBO. Right now the fsb is at 210mhz and the CPU is at 3.15. The only problem is it doesn't seem very stable (crashes and such). Any suggestions on a more stable setup?

Are you overclocking the memory?

Run Memtest to see.

Then let us know if it's prime/orthos stable and if not, are you doing a blend test or stressing just the CPU? You kinda need to identify the weakest part of your OC. It could be that you need to relax memory timings, raise the FSB and lower the multi, take a look at the HTT frequency, or something else. You haven't provided enough details for too much of an analysis by forum members, but there is a general rule that you should get everything very low and push the FSB first to see how high your mobo can go, then push the CPU and see how high it can go and then the memory. When you've done all three, you can start working towards obtaining a happy medium.

See some of the guides posted here or elsewhere that deal with AMD overclocking. Some are quite helpful.

Thanks for the reply. The memory is sitting at 816 right now. Memtest passed and I ran Orthos on blend for 3 hours so far and it's been stable. I'm not real familiar with memory OCing so I'm not sure if I want to get into that just yet. Right now I'm stable @ 3.06 with a 2.6 stock CPU so I guess I'm doing ok. I'm not sure if I want (or need) to OC any further. I just want to be able to use an 8800 gt without the system bottlenecking it.

How low should I put the multiplier to start off with? By the way my CPU voltage is at 1.425
