Is it neccessary to re-install WinMe to enable fast-writes?

I heard that it's neccessary to re-install Windows to enable fastwrites for my graphics card. Is there a way I can enable it through the registry instead of re-installing it? I have it enabled in my BIOS but it isn't shown as enabled in SiSoft. Also, it's the same with sideband. I'm currently running it at 4xAGP with latest drivers and all. I really don't want to have to re-install Windows for it. Any suggestions?
 
Enabling fast writes is normally a function of the drivers rather than the OS itself, so you shouldn't need to reinstall. What you ought to do is get yourself some of those GeForce tweaking utilities like GeTune....look around in Tweak Files. These programs usually have settings to enable things like fast writes and possibly sideband.
