Is It My HD?

So last night i go to my cpu move th mouse and all of a sudden it makes a "clicking" sound as if it's going into standby mode. It freeezes, i reboot and it can't get into windows. I throw in a boot disk and i can't access my c:. I boot with win xp and it shows that i have 60 gb of 60 gb free and in order to reinstall windows i need to format. So i did and lost everything.

Now, every once in a while I hear that clicking noise. It hangs for a bit but then it's fine again. Is that my HD giving up on me or is it somehting else?

That clicking noise is your hard drive taking its last breaths. It happened to me in a dell before. time for a new one.

that is the sound of the drive r/w head resetting they do that when they find a corrupt sector, cluster, or track. Somtimes its just a bad or corrupt partition table or data, and usially its a failing drive. Test the drive with SeaTools or MHDD.
