Sometimes, when I'm in gear (say 4th gear), if I take my foot off the throttle and let it slow down/cruise in gear and then get back on the gas, I feel a slight jerk.

Is that the flex disc showing signs that's it ready to be replaced?

Car in question is a 2002 BMW 530i RWD manual with about 70k miles.

Sounds like the guibo to me, I'm pretty sure it's something you can see for yourself if you can get it up on ramps.

BMWs, in my opinion, suffer worse than other brands from the soft suspension components wearing out.. You might want to consider replacing everything with better quality bushings and etc.

Could be. Could also be a mount somewhere.

IME a worn guibo joint produces noticeable noise and vibration at higher speeds, especially when not accelerating.

i don't recall the 530 having this problem, but on many bimmers, the broken diff bolts would cause a similar clunk. the flex disk is easy to see and replace, so I would start looking there. www.pelicanparts.com has a decent flex disc repair article.
