Is it my board or power supply????

Ok, so a few weeks ago I got a Gigabyte K8T800 A64 motherboard and an Athlon64 2800+. I have been having some issues with power up and shut down and I want to try and get some opinions on the issue. Newegg is willing to swap the board, but I have to mail them my old board and wait for the RMA process to complete before I get my new board. This is kind of a pain, so I wanted to see if you guys think it is actually my board or instead the power supply.

Here are the details:
Athlon64 2800+
Gigabyte K8T800
2x 512MB PC3200
120GB 7200RPM Western Digital
DVD-ROM
CD-RW
Radeon 9700pro

all of this is on an Enermax 300W power supply.

Here are the symptoms:
In order to boot the computer from the totally off state (that is to say, for example, when I wake up in the morning) I often need to cycle the power supply off and then on before the power swtich will boot the system. Also, when I go to shutdown the system from Windows rather than just shutdown the system reboots.

So is it my power supply? I am hoping it is cuz I have waiting for RMA. What does everyone think?

thanks,
-doug

you should be fine with a 300 watt (Enermax is good). Best thing to do is either wait for the RMA or go out and purchase an Antec True 430, could be you just don't have enough juice. if it has the same symptoms, just return the pSU and get a new board

That's a lot of hardware for a 300W supply. Can't you borrow another to test on before you RMA your board? If nothing else, go buy a new supply and if it still doesn't work, just return it.

use the paperclip trick on the psu

That only tells you if the psu will turn on. I have a psu that supposedly tests good with a voltage tester I have, but the voltages on the mobo fluctuate a lot with it. SO I keep it for testing fans... that's all....

My suggestion to the OP is to try to borrow a psu from a friend or another rig. If it still fails, rma the mobo.
