I have built a new system using an Asus A7M266 motherboard, AMD 1900XP processor, 512MB DDR memory, IBM 40GB IDE HD,
IBM 18.6 GB SCSI drive, Adaptec 2940UW controller and, ATI Radeon 8500 display adapter.
First I had to flash the bios on the motherboard to 1005 to boot. Now the hard part, I can not install Windows 2000 or Windows 98 on either HD.
The Windows 2000 error was \386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded error code 4.
Next I took the IDE drive to another system (AMD K6) and loaed Windows 2000 correctly, then put it back in the new system and
got the eror winnt\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt on the big blue screen.
How do I seperate the motherboard from the processor when I only have one of each?

Install a modern OS with AMD 761 support build in. OR try Win98SE, if it don't work, your system is unstable by some defective hard. ASk a copy of Win XP PRO OEM from a friend who has brougth a generic brand computer, the OEM version it doasen't have the activation thing, so you can try it for free.

The answer to my question came from AMD today.
Asus A7M266 motherboard is not compatable with AMD XP processors.
You must use an Asus A7V266-E motherboard, it has KT266A chip set.
I am in the process of exchanging motherboards and reply again when find out if that is true.

Just to clarify, Win XP Pro OEM DOES have activation. XP Pro CORP. does not.

They are NOT the same.
