Is it most likely a dead battery?

Hi, I drive a 95 mitsubishi FTO gpx which I got off eBay last week - hence I dont know the history of it or when the battery was last changed.

Im hoping it is a dead battery, but its 8pm and too late to go to the garage, this is what happens when I turn the key.

Stereo doesnt turn on like usual

the central locking is also hit and miss

what do you guys think please? im hoping it isnt something more serious =[

edit: the air conditioning and dashboard lights do come on though, which is worrying
 
Dead battery.

Get a jump, get to auto parts store for free test to see if it's the battery or the alternator.

 
alright thanks, it is still confusing why the air con comes on though, would have thought that requires a lot of power
cant get a jump til tomorrow morning so i guess Ill have to sleep on it 🙁
 
That's just a fan running, not the A/C. The A/C requires the engine to be running to run the compressor.

The battery died from age or failure, or because you left something on, or because the alternator/charging system quit charging it.
