Is it more worthwhile to buy a WAP or a wireless router?

I already have a router, and I could connect a wireless access point to it. Is this more or less ideal than just replacing my router with a wireless-capable one?

It depends on your situation. You can buy good wireless routers at the same price as just an access point. Also you eliminate the need for 2 devices by upgrading to a single wireless router, and you can just sell off the wired router for a few bucks.

Get a router compatible with the firmware DD-WRT. It enables the router to turn into a WAP. I currently use the WRT54G and I love it. It has never dropped out in the 6 months constant use. I use it with 4 computers wireless at once at times and it still goes strong with my PS3 wireless.
