hey guys before i start. let me tell you that i'll also be referencing to the issue i had a couple months back which is here:http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2190137&highlight=
so yesterday again something weird happened. i was playing bf3 when i suddenly encountered a noticeable drop in FPS. so i quit the game, came out and tried crysis 2 which was also running with HICCUPS. so i checked the hardware info in CCC when i saw the pci-e max. bus setting for my "linked" adapter was only X4 when it was suppose to be X8. so this morning i began my session of troubleshooting again. following is what i did:
1. i interchanged the card in the slots. put the 12 no. card for secondary and put the 13 no. one on primary which was the initial most setup when i ran the crossfire for the first time before changing it couple months back to the setup it was till yesterday.
also i removed the crossfire bridge and then booted to see if it could also be because of that.
the 2nd pci-e still showed the max. bus setting on X4 only.
2. now i decided to remove my new pair of 2gb kingston RAM sticks that i got a few days ago. i did. and with that i also reset all my bios setting to see if that could be somewhere affecting the bus width too (although i never did any tweaking or anything).
here too the max. bus width was being shown only x4.
3. now that i didn't know what to do i tried the other crossfire bridge to see if... maybe randomly it could get fised... IT DIDN'T.
4. so i wondered that last time actually swapping the power cables feeding the cards fixed the problem so maybe this time too it might. so again i interchanged the cables. now p5 is feeding the 13 no. card and p4 the 12 no. card (AGAIN this was the initial most set up with which i ran crossfire before i had the issue explained in the given link couple of months back).
Now the pci-e is showing X8 max. bus setting for both the primary and the linked adapter.
so i'm getting a feeling that maybe i should gt my SMPS changed as soon as possible when i've the budget actually. GX750W already has a very dubious reputation so.. but still what do you people think could be responsible for such issue? and if you also think it's power supply only then how long you guys think is it ok to run this SMPS before i could get a new one?
