Is it me went mad or is it Acronis for $10?!

So I bit on this, I had the same reservations as QuixoticOne, why would they use a .net url when the main page is .com?

Here is what happened, newegg also had it on sale in their add today so just for reference I went to Acronis.com to check the price there and added it to my cart, this is before I came across this post so I had one item in my Acronis.com cart. When I followed the .net url and added the $9.99 version my cart updated to the .com url and I had both the full price item from before listed and the $10 one so I figured it must be legit. I proceeded with the checkout and it brought me to what appeared to be the Acronis.com secure checkout so I completed the transaction.

I now believe it is legitimate after looking at the "Buy It" link on the acronis.net site, I see that it goes directly to:
http://shop.acronis.com/promo=223097
which does, as mc866 said, show the item in the acronis.com shopping cart for the correct price.
Nice deal. Now I am wondering what the story is with the digital download protection / send me a CD offers. If I just download this on some random PC (e.g. NOT the one I intend to use it on), and make a backup of the file(s) I download on my own CD, can I use those files to install/reinstall the software on any different computers I desire / need to over the years in the future?
Is the download somehow only good for one install or something? I guess I don't understand why they're trying to upsell the download protection thing if it is easy just to backup the downloaded files for oneself and assuming they do have a reliable system to ensure that you are able to complete the download on the first attempt(s)....

I'm pretty sure your key should work for all V11 iterations, you'll need to upgrade if you want the next big release, which I believe they are calling ATI2009, I have the demo, haven't tried it yet. So I didn't pay for the CD or the dl protection, looks like they are just looking for extra $$.

Thanks mc866. Do you or anyone else know how they do their licenses? I've got more than one PC, and I may end up backing up one, uninstalling the software, and then maybe months later I'll need to backup another PC and would want to use it for that purpose. Can I reinstall / use it on any number of possibly different different or clean formatted / upgraded PCs as often as I need to as long as I'm just using it on one PC at a time?

BTW I should mention that they recently had an open beta test of "Acronis True Image Home 2009" which presumably is the next version which will be coming out very soon. I got in on the beta, it looked OK, it didn't work the one time I tried it on a very old / infected PC (the PC was probably too messed up / too little RAM to run it). I assume the final version will be pretty good.
So if anyone really wants the very latest stuff and is willing to pay more for it, that may be an option. For $10 though for a permanent license of the slightly older product, this seems like a decent deal that will still do the job for most of what I need.

You can always create from TI a boot disk and use it to backup as many machines/partitions as you need or want. I prefer this method as I dont need to install anything or get involved actively with any partition being backed up (ie, they are sort of off-line). Warning though with this Russki software......always exit the boot program version before removing the boot disk.

Thanks, C1, that sounds like a good strategy for its use.

I did end up buying a couple of licenses and have successfully downloaded the 139 Megabyte executables.

In case anyone cares when you order multiple products the executables delivered seem to be identical (no GUID / uniqueness about them) so you only should need to download one program and just save the multiple license keys it shows you on the web invoice.
The md5 I got was:
4a0aed8ece1569a1b1986c748ec33af8 TrueImage11.8101_s_en.exe

The userguide PDF download for the product doesn't seem to work, it goes to a short / corrupt PDF file. I assume there's a manual installed when you install the software though.

From a discussion I got when googling for the license terms it seems that I wasn't the only one frustrated by not being able to access the EULA or any information on how they handle activation / usage / licensing and questions of use on multiple PCs. Apparently a few people thought it was intended for use on only one PC, though that still doesn't answer the question about uninstalling it and using it on a different PC. The consensus seemed to be that you could in practice use it on as many PCs as you want and that there isn't any "phone home" or online activation checking done.

Overall seemingly a good deal, thanks everyone!
