Is it me or is the Gamecube a complete piece of garbage?

In the entire month of May there have been four GC games reviewed by IGN (and I'm assuming they review pretty well all of the games that come out - correct me if I'm wrong). Contrast this with 8 for the PS2 and 7 for the X-Box. Going back a little further, to the beginning of April, there have been 21 new games for the PS2, 19 for the X-Box, and a whopping 8 new games for the Gamecube.

Is this a trend that's going to continue? I don't mind all that much considering what I paid for my GC, but I've bought one game so far - SSX 3; and I hear that it's actually a better game for the other systems.

So what's on the horizon for the Gamecube? More garbage, a lack of games in general, or something to look forward to?

Edit - Not to treat IGN like it's the god of game reviews, but the last time they gave a GC game even a score of 8 (and it was an 8.0) was over a month and a half ago. The last 9.0? January!!

That might be so, but does it actually pretend be viable competition for the other two consoles these days?

No one in their right mind buys a Gamecube for quantity over quality, you buy a Gamecube so you own the only constole that can play the one great game released by Nintendo about once every 6 months

These games include:

Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros Melee, Metroid and F-Zero

the only games worth playing on gamecube are ones that exist solely for gamecube, like mario, zelda, smash bros, star fox. everything else is trash, but its still worth getting just for those games

GC is the best of the three by far.
Explain...

If I wasn't poor I would buy a GC just to be able to play the Zelda series even if I knew no other games would ever be released for the console

Can't say anything remotely close to that for any other console

For me, most of the games worth playing on the Xbox eventually come on the PC. The PS2 really doesn't have any games that interest me. But the GameCube has Mario, Zelda, and the rest of the Nintendo franchise. IMO it's also the best multiplayer console out there. Xbox is close especially with Co-op on Halo...

It's $50 cheaper than the other systems for one.

Most importantly, it comes with all of those awesome Nintendo franchise games:

Zelda
Mario
Metroid
Star Fox
Mario Kart
Earthbound (if they make another one)

The XBox is just a freaking PC, and the PS2 has a wide selection of crappy games. Dollar for dollar, the games I listed above are worth far more than the games for the other two systems.

Same here. I'd buy it just to play Zelda. :)

Meanwhile I'm enjoying FF IX on the PSOne I just picked up for $35 on eBay with FF IX and Oddworld.

It's the games that matter not how l33t your console is. But yes, GC isn't the one to buy if you want a bunch of new games to play every month.

Thanks, but I think $99 is worth it just for Metroid Prime alone. Favorite game of all time.

The sequel will be awesome, as will RE4 and the new Zelda.

But to each his own. People worry too goddamn much about what consoles are better than others, but if you love gaming, just buy what makes you happy. For me, it's all those classic Nintendo franchises. For others, it may be something else.

IMO, it all depends on the types of games that you enjoy.

All I play are RPG's, so GameCube and X-Box are both pretty much worthless systems to me. But that doesn't mean that the systems themselves are worthless.

GC leads the charge in terms of party games, if you're having a group of friends over, the Gamecube has the greatest selection of multiplayer titles that everyone can just pick up and play. It also has the best looking version of Soul Calibur 2, Fzero is the best arcade racing game in the world, and so on...

GC = PS2 > XBox
