Is it me or is next year's lineup of games one of the best?

We may have Gears of War, Crysis, Half-life 2 episode 2, Unreal tornament 2007, Alan Wake, and farcry 2 if I'm not mistaken. Unfortunatly these games may benefit big time from vista. These games could be bad, but they have a good potential. This year hasn't been so hot with games imo.

This was the year of the console development and hype(Wii and PS3). Now there will be 3 years of games... straight. Then another dry cycle for a system and maybe pc then maybe a staggered launch will happen or something.

Those are all FPSs, we get a new crop of them every year.

Those are all FPSs, we get a new crop of them every year.

I forgot we have spore next year too, that's another interesting looking game.

If Bioshock, Crysis, and Warren Spector's new game are all released in 2007 that probably would make it the best year in gaming history. However, right now 2000 has it beat with Deus Ex and BG2.

I have no intent to get wii or ps3, at least not yet.

See i have the PS3 and i really don't know what is exclusive is coming out...

Heavenly Sword : Q2 07
MGS4: I think it will come out in Q2 08
FF12 : 04 08 ... the game will come out in Japan in Q2 08 but takes 6months for the english version to be released.

Wii has cool game but i ain't seeing anythere serious than Zelda , Mario Galaxy and Metrod Prime.

1998 had Half-Life and Starcraft and 2004 had Far Cry but aside from those three there weren't too many classics released then.

I see a lot of sequels and overrated popular games in there. None of those games aside from Far Cry really surprised me. Half-Life 2 is just Half-Life with a gravity gun and a Russian/Polish/whatever setting. UT2004 is either UT with vehicles or UT2003+1 whatever way you look at it. The Mario and GTA franchises have been beaten to death and IMO no racing game is unique enough to make a certain year seem any more special.

I'm not a console gamer but you can make a list nearly as large with just PC games...

yeah i heard that about the "exclusives" heading to xbox too. But you know the SCEA games are gonna be exclusive

i'm looking forward to lair and warhawk. I dont really know what else is exclusive.

Interestingly, I was saying exactly the same thing last January, as some of those games were supposed to come out this year. 2006 turned out to be a crap year for PC games as far as I'm concerned, so hopefully we'll actually see some releases this time around.

What happened to STALKER by the way? I haven't heard anything about that game for a long time.

The best year for me was easily 1999, with five games that I ended up spending years with: Freespace 2, Unreal Tournament, Descent 3, System Shock 2 and Tiberian Sun (this one wasn't so hot but I played the multiplayer a lot and there were some great mods available).

My point is that you can make a large list for any year if you simply judge by the popularity of a game. Deus Ex innovated far more than any graphics-over-gameplay 2004 game did.
