is it me? or has newegg refurbs really gone down hill?

i buy tons of stuff from newegg, and i really like buying from the "refurb" section. (im only ranting about the refurbs, ive not had any problems with the "new" stuff)

but lately ive been getting tons of DOA and faulty parts

of the last 6 motherboards ive bought from the refurb section (2 were biostar m7vig.. 2 were aopen mk77mii.. 2 were asus a7v600)
3 = doa
1 = onboard LAN sporatic (sometimes works and sometimes isnt even detected by the system, like its been turned off in bios)
1 = second IDE channel was faulty
1 = worked perfectly
** kinda sucks to only have 1 of 6 work right!! the one that worked good was the asus a7v600 and the other asus board was the one with a bad onboard 3com giga-bit lan**

i also bought a new vid card recently, saphire radeon 9600 pro. it arrived DOA 🙁

i have another radeon 9600 pro that is supposed to be delivered today (im hoping it works right... i really want to upgrade, my current card sucks 🙂 )

i also ordered 3 athlonXP 2500+ cpu's recently.. one was DOA, the other two work fine

so of my last 10 purchased from newegg refurb only 3 worked right 🙁
but in the past (for example the 10 purchaces before these last 10) i would probably have 9 of 10 items work perfectly

it makes me wondered if they are just reselling anything/everything they can, even if they suspect its damaged

Eh, its a chance you take buying the returned goods. I've had pretty good luck with refurbs.
i know its taking a chance, it just seems the quality has gone down hill the last month or so

Not worth taking the chance. WHen I order something, I need it to work when I get it I don't want to do the RMA dance (however good theymay beat it) to get the project done.

How much have you spent on return shipping on the defective items?

I have had good luck for the most part but the last thing I bought was an Antec 1000AMG case had some deep scrarches, scuffed window, was missing all the drive rails, and stickers on it.

i dunno, but i've been running to WD refurb hard drives in raid 0 for more than a year now w/ no problems.....**knocks on wood**

NewEgg changed it's definition of "Refurb'd" Used to be more like remanufactured or clearance, but now it includes more customer returns. Couple of years ago, bought 2 "refurb'd" motherboards that were brand new, but I don't do NewEgg refurb'd anymore.

I have also heard people are raping the return policy.

Their part dies 6 months later, they buy a new one, keep it and send the old part back, but they don't mention DOA on the return. Newegg doesn't test everything apparently, but returns = refurbs to them.

i got an open box optorite 4x dual format burner for 76 shipped about a month ago.
works great and had all software with it.

I think the newegg refurbs are a toss up you win some you lose some. If you win you get an awesome product that was real cheap if you lose well u have a dead part it sucks but you can just send it back. I have never personally used newegg refurbs but a friend of mine has been very successful with them and only 1 video card was a DOA other than that it has been smooth sailing.

easy solution..don't buy refurbs....find good deals at the fs/ft forum or pay a few extra bucks and buy new...
