DDR prices have been goin up everywhere (i remember 3 months ago i got 512 pc3200 of XMS at googlegear for $94) but generally speaking, newegg prices are not as competitive as they once were

Memory across the board seems to be going up. Not just NewEgg's either. I watch the prices on Sharky Extreme and all types of memory seem to be increasing. Some say it's the "back-to-school" spike, but who knows.

Lol, Newegg is going to have to pay off all the ads they have been blowing out... I even got an add in my PC World (a 2 pager at that). Wonder where that extra cash is coming from?

they're a business, the more business they can reach the better for them.. I don't get how their free shipping on so many items hasn't killed them yet, but I imagine they buy it such big bulk that they're still making a profit.

I got 2 sticks of 512mb Crucial PC2700 DDR for 64 a stick at newegg, a week later it went up about 10 dollars more now its at almost 90 dollars for a stick. When I got my new mobo I wanted to get 2 sticks of 512mb Corsair XMS PC3200 for 92 a stick, I wanted a week too long and the price jumped to 120 a stick. Hopefully memory will come down in price again.

Newegg probably sells the most stuff out of all online pc retailers. i mean pretty much everyone here buys/has bought from them. if u ask someone for prices everyone quotes newegg. if someone needs help building a computer then again prices are quoted from newegg. try searching the forums and see how many times newegg comes up.

Agreed they are as competitive. Of course they are a company, however I wish their prices where more competitive. Thats what keeps them going along with having just about everything you could want.

I think memory prices will be staying up for a while. With the new 865/875 chipsets, demand for pc3200 and above has risen, so therefore costs rise. It's all about companies making profit.

Also guys, hop back to the RDRAM vs. DDR threads. Many companies have been selling SDR and DDR SDRAM at at a loss...maybe some of them are finally trying for a profit, since high speed DDR demand is going up, and DDR-II still looks like it isn't ready yet.

Personally, I haven't noticed much except for the memory...seems like mobos, CPUs and HDs go down enough that it still gets a few bucks cheaper over-all every time I built a system or help spec one out.

Yeah I have noticed memory prices climbing and I don't think I have seen a price decrease in lower end Intel Processors for quite some time either. I really dislike lulls in competition.

As Blockbuster is to video rentals, Newegg is to selling electronics.

Anybody for SATs!

Well RAM in general has it's own market. It fluxuates from time to time. My Hyper-X PC2700 512 was only $75 when it came out. Last time I checked it was $100. But then again, every piece of RAM has gone up. Newegg does still have good pricing on some products. The Raptor SATA drive is among the cheapest and most popular and the Plantronics Audio 90 headphones was the cheapest last time I checked on Pricewatch. I mean, it depends on what you shop for, I happened to look at those two this week and they were the cheapest ones on PW, so it's not like they aren't cheap anymore. Oh yea, and don't forget that Newegg sponsored Summer CPL. I realized that there were a ton of computers there and the only other hardware sponsers were Intel and nVidia, Newegg probably sponsored the case, drives, and monitors.

As Newegg has established itself as the leading online hardware reseller, I've noticed that their prices are not as competitive as what they used to be. (Maybe it's to pay for all the advertising that they seem to be doing nowadays.)

I still buy most of my hardware from them though, because I don't mind paying a couple of extra dollars for the reliable service and fast shipping. However, I've begun to shop around a lot more lately, checking out other vendors that have cheaper prices. I never shop from any place that does not have a solid Reseller Rating though.

Newegg's still awesome, and I still recommend them to everyone I know. But at the same time, we should all be aware that there are other great resellers out there too. Afterall, competition is what helps to keep prices down for us. :)

Shipping isn't "free," its built into the cost of the item. Browse some of the other net heavyeweights, you'll find cheaper prices, but it equals when you add on their shipping.
