Is it me or do Mac users get too excited?

You know...I have a bunch of Mac users around me at work and all they can talk about this morning is MacWorld and Apple's announcements. I say...WHO CARES!?!?!? I can't overclock a Mac. I can't be l337 using a Mac! F-DA-MAC! Seriously, why? WHY? The Mac platform is dead. LONG LIVE LONG PANTS!

my local network has about 120 macs and 80 pcs, we're trying to get rid of the macs and get all pcs, I can't wait! PCs are so much easier to network and to troubleshoot!

Because they get so little to start with, they get excited for the small things. I remember when they first introduced the Voodoo for the Mac, people were flipping out at seeing GL quake play on their Macs, at this point Q2 was around for the PC and it looked 3 times as good :p

Because they are cool and more powerful(at least they used to be). I don't know why Apple hasn't improved to ddr and increased bus speed.

I also am confused as to why they don't dump the G4 and use the new G3's IBM came out with that are at 2ghz.

Apple spends more time on the case than the actuall computer components :p
Btw, is it possible to buy a case that has the folding side with the motherboard attached to the side like the g4? I have to admit, those are pretty cool :)

The reason why Mac users get so excited is hardware isn't updated as frequently as PC hardware is. PC hardware upgrades itself 2-3 times a year versus Mac's which upgrade once a year. Sure, you can get a fast processor for your Mac today, but it'll be the fastest (pretty much) for a year.

Buy a fast CPU for your PC today, and it won't be all that fast come another 2-3 months. Macs are different than PCs in many ways and do most things just fine, but because hardware selection is limited, I'm not going to buy one.

On the other hand, I do like the notebooks ;) They look good, but are too expensive. My PC I can take looking ugly, but if tote a notebook around for 2-3 years, I want it to look good. I probably wouldn't buy a Mac notebook anyhow, I'd rather have another PC at home, just to make life easy.

They are almost as bad as those freaky linux users. Vash has a good point, how can you get excited about something, when a few months later, something better will come out?

I love all the judgements put on macs that arent even by real mac users. Working on an old performa at your school lab shouldnt be the only thing you judge these things off of. Ive switched over a while ago but i definitely do see the appeal to macs still. Good hardware, simple OS and excellent for graphic work. I get a tad excited at whats going on in the macworld because sometimes they get some really interesting stuff out. And those damn new powerbooks and ibooks are the best design out there. Too bad it doesnt run windows.
