Is it legal to just purchase the cd-key?

Is it legal to just purchase the cd-key in the FS/FT forum? I had one of my threads locked awhile back for requesting to purchase one. Now everytime I see someone requesting it, I wonder if it's okay or not. If it IS okay, then I won't have to worry about anything if I need to purchase a cd-key in the future. If it ISN'T okay...then I won't plan on doing it ever again. Someone scratch my itch.

According to Microsoft, based on their EULA, you don't have the right to sell your license to anyone else. Many other software makers are trying to say the same thing. Legally, judges have been starting to say the EULA is crap, and that you have the right to sell your copy of software as long as you stop using it.

AT tends to err on the side of avoiding software makers getting upset about threads that even come close to piracy though. Selling a CDkey/serial number to someone online is far too close to piracy; there's no way to know the person isn't selling it to 20 different people.

Usually the licensing agreement that came with the software will spell out whether that paticular manufacturer endorses reselling the product or not (usually there's a copy of the licensing agreement on the CD).
