I go onto cars.com often for looking for a new car. In my previous thread i posted about a shady Celica that had a different milage then posted ( it was only off by 120,000 miles :( )... this time my rant is about these $1 or $2 cars. I pulled my BMW's first and heres the ad

$2, BMW 535i 1986, automatic, white with blue leather interior, 128.5K miles. (2) complete sets of winter and summer wheels and tires. New brakes, rotors, battery and water pump. $2,.995 /best offer. Call Gail at (802) XXX-3309

In the "price" columun is says $2

Then i pulled up a camary for supposedly $1

$1, L L L L L L L L CAMRY 1991, Excellent mechanical condition. $1.950. OBO. Call (802) XXX-7500

Again, the $1 is clearly stated. Is is legal to say one price, then change it?

I would think they are ploys to have their ads show first for lazy people searching who don't select a minimum. :)

Well...there are those agencies that setup advertising on the boards... What they do is charge a set amount of money to give you the location of Government auctions where you MAY be able to find deals like that. Most of the cars are impounds or siezed vehicles. I found a bunch of websites promoting that sort of 'DEAL'. All of those are scams to get you interested in how to save money and charge you to buy something.

This is why I always set my start price on car searches to something like a few thousand or something to avoid that crap.
