This question came up at work yesterday and no one really knew the answer for sure.
I know minors can't buy alcohol but if a minor is with an adult can the consume alcohol in their own home?

The law is a STATE law. If you're in the state, your subject to abide by that law.

AS long as the cops dont find out.

Yeah, and child services. If the parents are split, a parent could use this for leverage in a custody fight.

im gonna have to say no to that one. parents came down for parents weekend at school and went to bars with their kids. some kids still got busted and had parents there arguing with cops that they were supervising.

I think the bars part is key. Nobody under 18 can even be near a bar or something if I recall correctly.

well they were older than 20 because thats the minumum bar age here. unless they had fake id's or something they would have to be >20 <21 to get caught underaged drinking.

I know that alcohol can be drunk on private premices (Homes). At least, in Canada. Technially police can't enter your house without a warrant.

I know that it is allowed at least in certain circumstances. Think Catholics and communion.

Minimum age required to drink is handled by the state. Federal law was passed that forced states to raise age to 21 or suffer cutbacks to federal funding. Each state has it differently but most states allow alcohol consumption at home if a parent/guardian is present.

Here's Texas law - Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor; Possession of Alcohol by a Minor: It is a misdemeanor for minors to consume or possess alcoholic beverages except in the visible presence of the minor's adult parent, guardian, or spouse.

In Wisconsin they can, but it does vary from state to state. For example, in Michigan they can't.

No one can answer the question without know what the law says. Does it say "unless supervised by parent or guardian" etc?

Varies by state, I believe it's legal in Texas. You can also drink if your married to someone who is 21, but you are not. Me and my wife were in this position for a short period. Didn't work everywhere, some bartenders didn't want to 'risk' it. We even carried out marriage license around when we wanted to get into 21+ clubs. Never got turned down with the license (marriage and both drivers license) in hand.

Yes, it is. As long as you are on your parents property it is fine (in Washington). I remember when I was 18 I would occasionally come home after pulling a 11 hour shift as a long shoreman and find my mom had drawn a bath for me with a snack and a cold one laid out.
